A FDNY truck crashed into two cars in New York City on Saturday injuring 7 people including a child.  The accident occurred in Queens at the intersection of Booth Memorial Ave and Kissena Blvd. The fire truck was on its way to a fire in Flushing and its sirens were on.  The fire truck hit a Lexus SUV. The Lexus SUV then ricocheted into a Mercedes SUV.  The Mercedes flipped over on its side. A total of 10 people were injured in the firetruck crash. 7 of them were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Among them a child and an adult were critically injured. 3 other people including a firefighter were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the accident.

According to a study, there are around 30,000 firetruck crashes every year in the U.S. Firetruck crashes are also the second leading cause of death of on-duty firefighters. In New York City alone, there are between 20 and 40 crashes every month.

accident scene5 people were injured after a speeding driver crashed into a pole in Queens, NYC, early Saturday.  The 26-year-old driver of a white Chevrolet Sonic was speeding on 31st Ave in Elmhurst, Queens, when he lost control of his vehicle. He crashed into a traffic light pole located in front of a CVS at the intersection of 54th Street. The impact was so violent that the car was totally destroyed. Luckily the police arrived quickly at the scene of the accident. They were able to pull  the driver and the passengers out of the vehicle before it caught fire.In addition to the driver, there were 4 other occupants  in the car. A 19 year old boy was sitting in the front passenger seat. A 17 year old girl and an 18 year old girl were sitting in the back with a 20-year-old man.  The driver was in critical condition. All the passengers were also seriously injured but in stable condition. All 5 were rushed to a nearby hospital. The police believe that not only speed but also alcohol was a factor in the accident. An NYPD officer was injured after being dragged by a car 200 feet. The accident occurred in Queens, NYC, Saturday around 2:00 am. The driver of a Honda blew a red light at the intersection of Guy Brewer and N. Conduit Boulevards in Jamaica. A police officer then approached the car and asked the driver to turn off his car. Instead, the driver, who according to the officer, was in his twenties, sped off, dragging the officer with him over 200 feet. The officer had his arm stuck in the seat belt. He was able to get off and fell away from the car. The car was found abandoned a few blocks away. The police are still looking for the driver. Read more in the NY Daily News

accident scene6 pedestrians were injured including 2 critically in a bizarre van accident in NYC on Saturday afternoon. A crazy van driver in a white religious robe  started to accelerate on Brookville Boulevard near 143rd Avenue in Rosedale, Queens, plowing into cars and pedestrians.  A teenage boy and a teenage girl were sent into the air.  The boy landed on the back of the van. The girl fell in front of it and the driver just ran over her.  The van then sideswiped another car and  ran over  another pedestrian before driving  into the pond of Brooksville Park.  The driver then came out of the van dressed in a religious robe and screamed “hallelujah,  praise Jesus”. On one of the van’s windows one could read “Psalm 24, Psalm 37, Psalm 27” written by hand in white letters.  The police apprehended him and took him to the hospital for  psychiatric evaluation.  Some witnesses said he looked like he was on drugs. The pedestrians injured in the accident where all rushed to the hospital as well.  The two teenagers suffered critical injuries. Also in Queens, NYC, on Friday afternoon, an armed driver who injured two officers after trying to escape the police was arrested. He is facing attempted murder charges. The driver was pulled over after not respecting a stop sign on 110th Ave.  Police officers also noticed that the car had a broken taillight. As the as one of the police officer was asking for papers through the window, the driver accelerated dragging the officer into a parked car.  He then hit another officer before to crash his car. He was arrested and the police found a gun in his car. The driver was identified as 38-year-old Kyle Freistat. (Read more in the NY Daily News)

accident sceneTwo people died and several others were injured in a NYC car accident caused by a drunk driver who was speeding. 34-year-old Andrew Shakespeare was driving back from a wedding on Sunday morning. He had 4 other passengers in his car. He was allegedly drunk and was speeding on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens, NYC. As he approached the 188th street exit, Shakespeare changed lanes and side-wiped a Nissan Sentra driven by a 59-year-old woman. He then lost control of his BMW X5 SUV and careened into a Nissan Rogue driven by a 52-year-old man. Both cars crashed into the center guard rail. A 38-year-old woman driving a Mercedes was then struck by the BMW despite trying to swerve to avoid hitting the two cars. The impact sent her car into trees on the side of the road and back rolling over on the road.

The BMW front passenger, 34-year-old Layon Campbell was transported to the hospital with critical head and body injury. He was pronounced dead upon his arrival. 16-year-old Akeam Grant who was sitting on the rear right seat of the BMW died at the scene of the accident. The two other passengers, a 21-year-old and a 16-year-old survived. One of them fractured his pelvis and his right arm. The other lacerated his right arm. They were both transported to a hospital to be treated.

Among the people in the 3 other cars involved in the crash, both drivers of the Nissans were taken to the hospital for neck and back injuries but were listed in stable condition. The two passengers of the Nissan Rogue were also rushed to the hospital. The front passenger, a 50-year-old man injured his right leg. The rear passenger, a 63-year-old man fractured his rib and his neck. He also suffered from neck and back pain. Both passengers are in stable condition. The Mercedes-Benz driver was also transported to the hospital to be treated for pain in her right shoulder.

A fruit vendor was seriously injured in a car accident in Queens, NYC. The man was unloading fruit out of his van when a driver who was attempting to parallel park struck his van. The impact brutally pushed the van back, pinning the fruit vendor against the car parked behind him. The 52 year old fruit vendor identified as Tafazzul Hussein suffered serious injuries to both legs. See video here
The driver Sunel Amehd first reaction was to speed off but he returned almost immediately and admitted the accident. The collision occurred around 10:45 pm near the intersection of Drew Street and 101 st Ave in Richmond Hills, Queens, NYC.
During Ramadan, Tagazull Hussein would keep the fruit stand opened late to feed worshippers leaving a mosque located 2 blocks away. He is a figure in the neighborhood.

accident sceneA man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in New York City.  The motorcyclist was riding his bike South on Lefferts Boulevard near 115th Ave in Queens, NYC, Saturday around 1:00 pm when a Dodge Ram pick up truck slammed into him. The driver of the pick up truck was driving North and swerved to avoid hitting a car. The police also suspect that the motorcyclist may have been driving over the speed limit. Investigation is still ongoing. The collision was so violent that a witness who was driving several cars behind them said he saw the motorcyclist flying high into the air. The 27-year-old rider suffered trauma all over his body as well as a broken leg. Read more in the NY Daily News

The case involved a construction worker who was injured while performing asbestos removal work on a building rooftop in Queens, NYC. He fell 15-20 feet into the building when the roof collapsed in the area where he was working.

He was rushed to North Shore University Hospital where he was diagnosed with fractures to his spine. While in the hospital, he underwent a percutaneous fusion from the T10 vertebrae to the L2 vertebrae. He remained in the hospital for three and a half weeks after the accident. Following his discharge, he underwent several months of physical therapy and also received epidural steroid injections in his lower back.

Vanessa Raghubar died in a drunk driving accident in NYCA 22 year old woman died from her injury  after a drunk driver crashed into her car in NYC. The drunk driver, 32 year old Neville Smith is a NYPD detective. He was off duty when he crashed into Vanessa Raghubar’s car.  The accident occurred around 4:00 am Sunday morning on the Van Wick Expressway.  Vanessa  was returning from her sister’s birthday party when the drunk detective crashed his Mercedes into her Honda. The impact was so strong that Vanessa’s car was propelled against a light pole and a tree. She and her two passengers, her sister and her sister’s boyfriend suffered critical injuries. All 3 were transported to the hospital where Vanessa died the following day.

Smith was charged with vehicular assault, assault, driving while intoxicated and refusal to take a Breathalyzer test. More charges are expected.

Vanessa who studied psychology was supposed to graduate in June. Her family wants justice.

accident sceneA pedestrian was critically injured after an out of control SUV jumped the curb last Friday afternoon in Queens, NYC. The driver of the SUV was an elderly man who just came out of an appointment at a radiology center on Steinway Street in Astoria. His SUV was parked in front of the radiology center. As he was pulling out of the parking space, the driver suddenly accelerated. He mounted the sidewalk, hit the pedestrian violently and crashed into the wall of the radiology center. When the doctor came out he recognized his patient. The patient told the doctor that the accelerator pedal got stuck on the floorboard. The pedestrian was critically injured and was bleeding from the head. The driver also suffered serious injury. They were both transported to the hospital.
