61 year old Robert Ray who served 10 years in prison after admitting he was drunk when he crashed a train in Union Square in 1991 was hit by a car and suffered critical personal injury as he was crossing The Grand Concourse from east to west at E.182 St  in the Bronx last Thursday night. The driver sped off and disappeared in the night. Police who don’t have a description of the car haven’t made an arrest. Read more in the NY Daily News

A NYPD patrol car crashed into a 15-passenger van and caught fire in Brooklyn, NYC. The accident happened Sunday around 4:15 am. The patrol car was responding to a foot pursuit when the driver struck the van at the intersection of Fort Hamilton Parkway and 66th St. in Dyker Heights. Five people were injured in the crash and transported to the hospital. One person was in critical condition, two people were severely injured but in stable condition and the two other suffered minor injuries.

Three people were severely injured after a sedan crashed into the rear of a tractor trailer in Brooklyn, New York Saturday around 4:15 am. Officials said the car was going down Flatbush Ave at 110 miles-per-hour when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a Walgreens truck near Kings Highway in Flatlands. The crash was so violent that the BMW was completely destroyed. 3 people were rushed to the hospital in critical condition and another person suffered minor injury. Read more in the NY Daily News

An 88 year old man was severely injured in a bicycle accident yesterday afternoon in the Queens, NYC. The accident happened on  131st Street near Rockaway Blvd in South Ozone Park in the middle of the afternoon. A blue sedan hit the cyclist and sped away. The elderly man was taken to the hospital in critical conditions.

Two men suffered severe personal injury in two separate accidents that happened in Brooklyn, NYC, on Sunday night. One of them was a 46 year old cyclist who crashed his bike into the back of  an MTA bus in Williamsburg and the other one was a pedestrian who was struck by a car three hours later in Crown Heights. Both were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

According to mayor de Blasio’s preliminary budget, 100 million will be allocated to make Queens Boulevard safer and the other 150 million will be allocated to Fourth Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn as well as the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. These four streets have been identified as some of the most deadly streets in New York City and even though some safety upgrades such as lower speed limits and speed cameras have already been implemented, the city is planning to completely redesign them. According to officials, theses safety improvements should lead to a reduction of 30 to 40% of deaths and injuries on these streets. Read more in Transportation Nation

A New York mother and her two children suffered serious personal injury after being bitten by a dog Saturday morning. The mother was taking a stroll with her two kids on the Rockaway Boardwalk in Queens when a stray Rottweiler attacked them and viciously bit them.  Neighbors and the police rushed to the scene of the attack, alerted by the scream of the 31 year old mom. When the police arrived she was lying face down on the ground in the snow with a Rottweiler on her back. The two children, 4 and 10 years old, were nearby, bloody and terrorized, helplessly looking at the scene. According to neighbors, the police had no other choice but to shoot and kill the dog. Police said that the mother suffered deep wounds on her face and hands and the children suffered bites on their hands and arms. They were all transported to the hospital.

Several people were taken to the hospital after being badly injured in a car pile-up. The accident happened Sunday around 5:00 am  in the Prospect-Lefferts Gardens section of Brooklyn, NYC. According to witnesses, a car tried to pass another car by using the left lane to allegedly beat a red light when the driver lost control of his vehicle and hit another car triggering a chain reaction between five vehicles. Some of the vehicles occupants who were injured were stuck in the crashed cars and had to wait for the NYC Fire Department to cut through the cars to extricate them and transport them to hospitals.

A high speed chase across the Verrazano Bridge and Staten Island, NYC, ended with 2 police officers suffering personal injury  in a car accident between the fugitive and the police. The fugitive, 41 year old Anthony Mazza had failed to appear to a sentencing for aggravated assault in New Jersey and was tracked by a US marshal fugitive task force.  The fugitive, 41 year old Anthony Mazza, was charged with eluding and assault on police for injuring the two officers in the cruiser.  A video shot from an helicopter shows a very dangerous high speed chase across the Verrazano Brige. Thankfully no civilians were injured but such a chase still raises questions about how far the police should go without seriously endangering  New York road users and pedestrians to catch a fugitive. A 63 year old woman suffered serious personal injury after she was hit by a hit and run driver who is still at large. The accident happened Sunday morning at 89th Avenue and 120th street in Queens, NYC.  The driver hit the pedestrian at 89th Avenue and 120th Street in Queens, and sped off on 89th Ave. The police are still looking for the  driver and have released the below video. The vehicle is a dark gray Nissan Pathfinder. The victim was taken to the hospital where she is in serious condition.
