Stop Asian HateGair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf stands united in opposing all acts of discrimination, harassment and violence against people of the Asian community. Hate crimes are a violation of civil rights, human rights and, ultimately, a threat to the rule of law.   We express our support in solidarity with all members of the Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander communities following the recent inexcusable acts of violence against Asian, black, indigenous and all people of color across our nation. We are deeply troubled by these attacks and by any violence based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or gender. These acts are reprehensible, unconscionable and run counter to our goal of supporting a diverse and inclusive community. For more than 100 years we at Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf have fought hard and will continue to fight to protect the rights and interests of all people.

NYC Medical Malpractice Attorney Jeff BloomCongratulations to our partner Jeffrey Bloom for being ranked 19th on the City & State list of the 100 most powerful legal professionals in New York! Jeffrey joined Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf immediately after he graduated from  law school in 1979. He became one of the most prominent personal injury and medical malpractice attorneys in New York and has achieved multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for his clients in personal injury cases related to car accidents, construction accidents, product liability and medical malpractice.  He also served as lead counsel, representing the Estate of Joan Rivers in a medical malpractice action arising from her death following surgery at an ambulatory surgical center.

Jeff is  co-chair of the Medical Malpractice Committee and LAWPAC of New York (the influential Trial Lawyers’ political action committee) for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. He combines his vast knowledge in the field with his political acumen to effectuate change and preserve justice for those injured through the fault of others.  Jeff who has successfully represented multiple clients whose cancer was misdiagnosed, was instrumental in passing the “Lavern’s Law,” which mandated that the statute of limitations in cases on behalf of cancer patients and their families begins to run when the patient reasonably discovers that he/she has been the victim of malpractice.

For more than a decade, Jeff has been listed yearly in Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers. He is also a member of the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers which limits the number if its members to 500.

New York Child sexual abuse lawyer Ben RubinowitzThe COVID crisis has dramatically altered the way courts conduct business, but any judge will tell you, with a sense of pride, that the courts never closed. How have courts – an institution notoriously slow to change – adapted to provide access to justice throughout a pandemic?

Our managing partner Ben Rubinowitz will be speaking at a conference hosted by The Center on Civil Justice at NYU Law School that will address these issues. The conference will take place online Monday January 11, 2021, from 12pm to 5pm.

The conference will examine the nature of the way courts change and adapt in general, what specific trial and pre-trial rules and procedures have changed (and how), and which of these changes can be used to improve efficiency and access to justice after the COVID crisis passes.

New York Personal Injury Attorneys Rubinowitz and TorganIn their recent Trial Advocacy column in the New York Law Journal, NYC Personal Injury Attorneys Ben Rubinowitz of Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf, and Evan Torgan of Torgan & Cooper write: Whether in the form of a deposition, surveillance footage or an event captured on a nearby security camera, the trial lawyer must think carefully how to best exploit a video as a strategic tool for helping her win the case before ever questioning a witness. If used properly, a video can serve to leave an indelible impression that there is no doubt that the witness is a liar, cannot be trusted and is anything but credible.

Recently, the Administrative Board of New York’s Office of Court Administration took the unprecedented action of denying re-certification to 46 Supreme Court Judges, ending their careers on the Bench. Those justices were required to apply to continue to serve based solely upon their age.

Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf stands with all New York judges in the fervent hope that this decision be reconsidered and each of these excellent jurists receive the individual consideration of their applications which they have earned. Now, more than ever, our citizens need confidence that they have access to a fair and functioning judicial system. The simultaneous loss of all of these hard-working judges greatly diminishes the ability of our Court system to ensure that provision of timely and absolute justice that provides the bedrock foundation of a just society. Even in these tumultuous times of unforeseen financial challenges, we hope that a place remains for so many talented Judges.  It is these Judges who have given their careers to serving the public and providing even-handed justice. Now more than ever we need their time tested experience to guide us through these difficult times and put us back on the right path ensuring justice for all.
