A Weekend of Fatal Collisions
The unfortunate events began on Thursday, August 29, when a 55-year-old pedestrian identified as Jacqueline Healy of Jamestown was struck by a Ford pickup truck while crossing Cross Bay Boulevard at Pitkin Avenue in Ozone Park, Queens. The driver, Keith Ryan, 47, was arrested and charged with driving with a fake license.
The next day, a 63-year-old pedestrian was hit by a Chevrolet SUV while crossing Broadway at Myrtle Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Despite the driver having the green light, the collision resulted in the man’s death at Woodhull Hospital on September 1.
On Saturday morning, a moped accident on the Cross Island Parkway in Whitestone, Queens, resulted in the deaths of two teenagers. The moped, operated by 15-year-old Andy Rodriguez, struck a barrier wall, causing both him and his passenger, 19-year-old Giselle Flores, to be ejected.
Later that weekend, on Sunday morning, a cyclist was struck and killed on Union Avenue in Williamsburg (see our previous blog). This incident occurred on a stretch of road where the bike lane ends, forcing cyclists to share the road with motor vehicles—a situation that can lead to dangerous outcomes.
That same morning, a 28-year-old motorcyclist was fatally injured in a hit-and-run on the Jackie Robinson Parkway. The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike when a vehicle changed lanes and struck him. The driver fled the scene and has not been apprehended.
The Legal Perspective: Addressing the Aftermath
For the families affected by these incidents, the legal process can help provide some measure of accountability and compensation. As experienced NYC auto accident lawyers, we assist in navigating the complexities of such cases, ensuring that responsible parties are held accountable.
In cases involving unlawful driving behavior, such as Keith Ryan’s use of a fake license, both criminal charges and civil liability can be pursued. Hit-and-run cases, like the one on the Jackie Robinson Parkway, require thorough investigation to identify the responsible party, and we are committed to assisting in these efforts.
