Qualified and competent
Certified Site safety inspectors have taken a safety course with OSHA and must meet specific criteria before receiving a OSHA certification. However these last years many unscrupulous workers just blew off the classes and presented falsified OSHA cards to contractors in order to become site safety inspectors.
Since the beginning of the year the City has been cracking down on these workers.
A buildings department spokesman said over the last 18 months “numerous inspectors from the Scaffold Safety unit visited various sites where they identified workers carrying OSHA and scaffold training cards that appeared fraudulent.” The incidents were referred to DOI which “made arrests when necessary.”
A recent crack down on October 17th led to the arrest of 5 workers with a fake card and 19 others with no cards at all at various NYC construction sites.
